- #52Mobile Firefox is Fennec, it's still in beta though.
https://www.mozilla.com/en-GB/m/beta
not many addons for it yet and it's slower than webkit based browsers.
it's not very good on a large screen device the buttons and fonts are chunky. - #53Mobile Firefox is Fennec, it's still in beta though.

Thanks for that link sandstone.
I downloaded the Firefox for Android file and will give it ago next week. - #54Interesting as I managed to dowload this via my wifi using the tablet and the file is sat there on the Vega but when I select it it does nothing
It is likely that in Settings/Applications you can tick 'unknown applications'.
apk's work on my San Francisco immediately when bluetooth received. It seems this has the correct box ticked. - #55I don’t know if you are still looking to download apps but if like me you are feeling your way around Android with a small and steady learning curve here is a reasonably easy way to down load apps without a market place. Should do until we get the 2.3 update.
I am assuming here that you have got to the stage where your Vega can be connected to your PC for file transfer using the instructions and USB drivers on the Vega support site.
Start by going to http://www.getjar.com up in the top right-hand corner enter ‘Google Nexus One’ as your mobile phone as these files (most of them anyway) work with the Advent Vega.
Now as an example look for “Angry Birds” and click to download the app. After doing this another box will open and within that box is a clickable button with the wording “downloads this application to your computer”. The box that opens now is the standard file location so select somewhere on your PC to store the “TrainSim.Packaged.Activity” file.
Now connect your Vega to your PC (again I am assuming you have already linked your Vega to your PC) which should start the file transfer programme running. As this programme only gives the option AFAIK to transfer pictures, music, video and documents to the Vega you have to use your PC's Windows file explorer to copy the Angry Birds file to your Vega.
In Windows Explorer your Vega will be listed as a removable drive so clicking on its location will open the folders in the Vega. Copy and Paste the Angry Birds file to the folder called Downloads which I think of the top of my head is a sub folder of the Media folder but don't hold me to it:).
Disconnect the Vega from your PC and open the file manager in the application area of the Vega and search for the Angry Birds file in the download folder, when you have found it tap the screen and you will given the option to install the programme.
That’s it, hope you can follow this, if you can you should be having fun with those birds and pigs in no time at all.
Just an update to this info.
When your Vega is connected to the internet via Wifi you can download akp files from the web directly without the need of a PC.
Once downloaded they can then be installed on the Vega using the Applications Manager. - #56Just an update to this info.

Yep that's really handy. I tend to upload .apk files to dropbox and then use the dropbox app to install them on Android. - #57When I send apk files to my phone via bluetooth I then automatically get asked if want to install it.

I have not tried BT to download, will give it a go sometime soon.
The procedure on the Vega using the web browser + Wifi is straight forward enough just takes a bit of time getting used to new procedures.
I have only made a note about downloading apps to the Vega direct from the web browser because a lot of sites seem to imply that you need an apps market come store to download games which is not true, however I am sure it does make it a little bit easier. - #59That's downloading to my laptop and simply sending that way.
I've hardly used the browser on the phone.
I bought it mainly for email and mapping. - #60Just an update to this info.

This post has made my christmas..many many thanks, been giving myself a headeache reading the modaco site and was a bit weary flashing the rom to get market access.
This is brilliant cheers mate:D - #61Flashed my wifes Vega as soon as it arrived pre Xmas. The instructions arent the best but it does improve the tablet being able to use Google android market. Very nice machine btw - but I will stick to my netbook for awhile.
- #62Well have been enjoying the vega and managed to download some apps
One thing i have noticed is my automated orientation has stopped working even though its ticked to work in my settings - #63you haven't slid the screen lock button have you, its the middle one of the top three hardware buttons.
- #64you haven't slid the screen lock button have you, its the middle one of the top three hardware buttons.
Nope thats fine
If i tick it so the green tick is visible it turns the page portrait permanently and if i un tick it the page is permanently landscape
It did used to work and only lasrlt few days noticed it wasnt - #65Ignore me it was locked i thought the red dot showing was ok clearly still getting to grips with it sorry folks
The vega has put up with a lot and i still like it lol - #66Thanks for that link sandstone.

Well I gave Android Firefox a go but while it’s kind of OK, it is nowhere near as good as the browser built into the non modified Vega. There is a column down the side of the screen to control the browser that takes up page space. God knows what that looks like on a mobile screen smaller than 7”.
One big irritating thing is every time you want to go to a new site or click on a link the Vega asked what browser you want to use. Very annoying.
Deleted the Fox and now happily using the Vega's built in browser.;) - #67Its now down in price by £10 to £240 at PC World and down a further £30 at PCWB at £204+ del.

Not strictly true.
The non flash version (download it yourself) is £239.99 and if you buy it with Flash already installed it is £249.00
Still cheaper than any other half decent tablets out there... On my list.... - #69A bit of old stock then. Maybe its the same for PCWB who now 'order on request'.
If they spent another £10 in production upgrading the screen it would be the best of the lot for price/performance/facilities. - #70A bit of old stock then. Maybe its the same for PCWB who now 'order on request'.

Must be left from the first batches I guess. I would be very happy with a vega especially with the Modaco ROM installed. It looks super slick with that and much nicer GUI. Will be interesting to see when it ports to honeycomb...
Now I just need some clients to help pay for it.. - #71Must be left from the first batches I guess. I would be very happy with a vega especially with the Modaco ROM installed. It looks super slick with that and much nicer GUI. Will be interesting to see when it ports to honeycomb...

Yes the Vega is much better with a Modaco Rom. I have it flashed with the V8 Rom and it is faster than before with root access.
Opera Mini runs great on it.
But I've yet to find an app that shows the tablet off to its best.
Angry Birds is fun. I'm really looking for an Encyclopedia type app that is interactive. - #72Its now down in price by £10 to £240 at PC World and down a further £30 at PCWB at £204+ del.
Hmm I wonder how easy it is to get a business account. - #73I didn't notice this thread so I'll post my experience here
+1 for Advent Vega, £211 from PC World Business
got one last week....brilliant
I Use Chrome2Phone to send webpages to both my HTC Desire and Vega instantly from my HTPC
I use Gmote as a keyboard and touchpad to control my Windows 7 HTPC
I've played with Youtube Remote to control my Youtube Leanback (just spent weekend watching my entire Tintin cartoon playlist this way), and XBMC Remote to control XMBC. Will try VLC Remote soon
I use Plex to stream my HTPC videos on both my HTC Desire and my Vega from anywhere in world over wifi or 3g
I use Audiogalaxy to stream my HTPC music on both Desire & Vega over wifi or 3g (maybe will try Subsonic for more control)
I use Winamp (with Lyrics App) for local music stored on SD card
I use RockPlayer for local videos stored on SD card
I use Dropbox to synce my files across all devices such as comics
I use uTorrent Remote to directly control torrent downloading on my HTPC
I use Droid Comic Viewer to read my comics
I use BBC iPlayer and TVCatchup for TV
I use LastPass to manage all my passwords which works great with the Dolphin HD Browser
I use Dolphin HD as my browser but might prefer Miren Browser if only it had a LastPass plugin.
I have the latest Adobe Flash installed and also a flash block plugin for browsers so pretty much the whole web is available as you want it
I use xPiano to mess around on a virtual keyboard
I play Stupid Zombies, Angry Birds, Spaghetti Marshamallow, Trap , Robo Defence, Tetris mostly
I use Skype to talk to my family abroad, inbuilt camera not great but perfectly fine, maybe I will attach a USB webcam one day
I use Google Earth to check when the giant 'G' I wrote on my roof will show up (in fact when I have the balls to be a ninja I am going to jump on my neighbours' roofs and make it bigger by using one letter per house to spell GFUNK)
I use Google Maps & Navigation which is smooth
I use ColorNote for note taking
I use SoundHound for detecting music from the TV or when out
I use Ebay, Amazon, Ocado and unofficial Tesco App for shopping
I use HungryHouse & Dominos to order food
I ues BBC, Sky, Fox, MSNBC, Engadget, Gizmodo and Al Jazeera apps for news as well as the browser for India news
I use Google Voice search a lot now to search google
I use Retro Caclulator for a quick cool calucations unless I need a scientific one which I don't
And not to forget that my contacts, gmail, youtube and calendar are all perfectly in sync. I use Google Authenticate for 2 step account verification which is SMART
I use SMSbackup on my Desire (not Vega) to auto backup all my SMSs to Gmail
I use HDMI out view on my 55' TV
I use Titanium Backup to well backup the devices
I use sony bluetooth DS200 for my Shure earphones to listen to Vega wirelessly
I wish Natwest AND Tesco will hurry up with their bloody Anroid apps because I WANTED THEM YESTERDAY!
I also wish there was a Dos Emulator (maybe like Dosbox) so I can play Commander Keen on it.
I may purchase LogMeIn later to have complete control over my own, my parents and my work PC
I'm looking to buy a case, wired/wireless keyboard and mouse and maybe even a Zeemote for nintendo emulators
The screen could have better viewing angles I guess but its really fine as its a single person device, speakers are decent but nothing to shout about, touch is very responsive, only one camera which faces you so barcode scanning and Google Goggles not practical but HTC Desire steps in where needed
All the above in my eyes makes for a downright STEAL at £225 (I paid a tenner to allow Android Market on this device and about 4 quid for Plex)
I use a few other bits and bobs but I hope the list above helps someone - #74@gfunked84 Great list. Given me plenty of ideas. Thanks!
- #75
That confirms my thoughts that tablets are 'junk food'I use HungryHouse & Dominos to order food
. - #76Modaco is reporting that the pre-flash stock is now down to £199 now at Dixons.
You simply have to install Flash yourself via the official update.
